hi my cutie patootie,
welcome to What Is This Regarding? where we take a critical lewk at wtf’s going on around us. nothing is more Around Us than the pervasiveness of capital F “Funny Fashion.” it’s falling down the runways, it’s turning a handbag into a croissant into a handbag again. it’s honestly annoying.
i couldn’t help but wonder… when Schiaparelli started meme fashion was she iNnoVaTinG or was she just a nepo baby?
Today isn’t about taking down the memes tho - today is about something else. today is about The Ha Ha’s: my personal style defined.
A Ha Ha is something that happened to me right around 8:30 PM last Friday- I was drawn to a vintage oversized dark brown university jacket embroidered with a large PLANET HOLLYWOOD HONOLULU insignia.
My personal style metric for making a purchasing decision is if the item is a Ha Ha.
its critical to note the key difference between the Ha Ha’s and the instagram meme bait. the Ha Has are this:
not this:
not bc the celine toenail heel aren’t fabulous, flirty and fun, but bc they are MEANT to make you cynically Ha Ha.
The Ha Ha aesthetic is here for a good time AND a long time. timeless humor.
while i don’t YET own an I’m With Stupid shirt, it is truly on brand and on theme here - bc it’s UNIVERSAL. and also Gela likes it so that’s on periodt.
the Ha Ha aesthetic is funny because it’s literal but it also makes you think.
the only appropriate way to end today’s newsletter is to leave you with a quote from my dad, resident psychologist at What Is This Regarding?
“the payoff is in the future but also in the present.”
the truth is you could go your whole life without Ha Ha’ing and that would be the real tragedy.
so while i go dig thru peoples sock drawers for inspiration and interviews, pls stay tuned, share this silly sletter with a friend you love and want to make Ha Ha - and stay kewl listening to our newest live set.
